Advanced Usage of 的 (de): Learn how 的 connects modifiers and modified elements, and discover when it can be omitted in Chinese grammar

1 Basic Pattern: Nouns/Pronouns Modifying Nouns

In Chinese, modifiers always come before the elements they modify. The particle 的 (de) is often used to connect these two parts when a noun or pronoun modifies another noun.

PN + 的 + N + VP
我的裙子不贵。
wǒ de qúnzi búguì.
 My skirt is not expensive.

 The teacher’s book is a new one.
