Learn how to use action verbs in Mandarin Chinese, including sentence structure, negation, and question formation
SVO Basic Sentence Structure
Action verbs in Chinese are similar to those in English. They express an action or the occurrence of an event. The word order of this type of sentence is normally the same as in English: Subject + Verb + Object (SVO).

Key Point: Chinese follows the same Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) order as English for most action sentences, making it easier for English speakers to learn basic sentence construction.
Negation with 不 (bù)
To express negative meaning with action verbs, place 不 (bù) after the subject and before the verb. However, there’s one important exception!

Important Exception: 有 (yǒu)
The verb 有 (yǒu) meaning “to have” cannot be negated with 不. It must be negated with 没 (méi).
Never say: 我不有车 (wǒ bù yǒu chē) – This is grammatically incorrect!
Questions with 吗 (ma)
The simplest way to form yes-no questions with action verbs is to add the interrogative particle 吗 (ma) to the end of the sentence.
