1 Method 1: Adding 吗 (ma) at the End
The simplest way to ask a yes-no question in Chinese is to add the interrogative particle 吗 (ma) to the end of a statement. The sentence word order remains unchanged.

Key Point: This is the most common and straightforward way to form yes-no questions in Chinese. Simply take any statement and add 吗 at the end.
2 Method 2: Positive + Negative Verb Pattern
Another way to ask questions is to use the positive form of the verb immediately followed by its negative form. This pattern is often translated as “or not” in English.
Important: 吗 is always omitted when using this pattern.

Pronunciation Note: When 不 (bù) precedes a 4th-tone character (like 是 shì), it changes to 2nd tone: 不是 becomes bú shì.
